WHAT IS INTERACTIVE FICTION?
Interactive Fiction (often known as IF for short) are text adventures. This style of game was very popular in the early days of computer gaming, especially Infocom games such as Zork. Unfortunately, as computers improved, and graphical elements in games became more prevalent, commercial IF died. However, there is still a dedicated community on the Internet who write and play this style of game.
It may seem unusual in today's age of incredibly detailed 3D graphics, but IF games that use only text to describe surroundings and puzzles are still very fun today. Well-written text is a powerful medium for people to express themselves in. I would encourage as many people as possible to join in the IF community. The tools that have been provided by talented people make it easy for anyone to contribute games. Possibly the biggest advantage is that almost all the games to play are free, and there are a lot of high-quality games that have been produced.
